Gastroenterologist
Dr Mazhar Haque is a senior gastroenterologist with a special interest in liver disease. He commenced his medical training at the Mater Hospital South Brisbane in 2001, completing basic physician training in Queensland before undertaking advanced postgraduate training in gastroenterology at the Mater and Gold Coast Hospitals.
He completed an 18-month hepatology and liver transplant fellowship at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada and joined the Mater Adult Hospital as a staff specialist in 2010. Since then, he has been involved in clinical trials relating to fatty liver and viral hepatitis.
Dr Haque practises general gastroenterology and performs a range of endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He also provides regular FibroScan™ sessions, a non-invasive assessment used to measure liver fibrosis.
He is actively involved in medical education and continues to teach medical students and junior doctors. He holds a Senior Lecturer appointment with the University of Queensland and was awarded the UQMS Teaching Award for outstanding teaching in 2017.
Dr Haque consults privately with Mater Hill Gastroenterology and performs procedures at the Mater Private Hospital Endoscopy Unit, Sunnybank Private Hospital and Mater Private Hospital Springfield. He also consults at the Springfield Mater Hub.
